The vehicle is the "Rakettpanserjager NM 142". It's built on an American M113. The engine is a 210 horsepower V6 two stroke Detroit Diesel. The vehicle weight is 14 tons ready for combat. It has a crew of four: the commander, gunner, loader and driver. It is armed with a German MG3 machine gun, two TOW launchers with six rockets. The tower is produced in Norway by Kværner Eureka. It is sold to Canada, Austria and Saudi Arabia. There is 97 NM 142 in service in Norway.

The armament is a TOW (tube-launched, optically-tracked, wire-command guided missile) missile launcher. The rocket is a long range anti armour weapon with great piercing ability. Range of the missile is 3750 meter. It's a 149 mm caliber missile.

"Panservern"s mission is to defeat armor. The unit is only used in a defencive role.

The NM142 Rakettpanserjager is build on the chassis of the US M113. The turret is manufactured in Norway.

The primary mission of the TOW vehicles is to defeat battle tanks, infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) and other armoured vehicles and fortresses. The missile has a great accuracy. During the Gulf War, the Allies had 98 % confirmed kills and 0 % loss. The weapon can be used in dark, fog, smoke and bad weather condition. It has thermic and optical vision.

The vehicle can shoot all types of TOW missiles as the TOW Basic and TOW 2B Top Attack. The NM 142 also carry a ground mounting pod which can be carried 2 km.

The TOW is a battle proved weapon.
