The 155 mm Self-propelled Gun IC is a tracked artillery piece
with splinter-protection for the crew. The gun is of Swedish
design and built onto an extended MBT 103 chassis. The gun
fires conventional HE shells and the range is in excess of
26 km. Rate of fire is 14 rounds in 45 seconds (cf. US SP
Howitzer Paladin which fires 6-8 rounds per minute). This
self-prpelled gun was commisioned in the mid-60's and is used
as divisional artillery in Norrland. Ammunition handling is
done from a dumper-truck with a platform and a crane accompanying
the gun. The truck carries up tp nine cassettes with 14 rounds
in each. Loading is carried out mechanically by a cassette
being lifted over the magazine of the SP gun.
Each self-propelled gun is equipped with the POS 2 system
for positioning and directing.
